Thanks Komal :-)

Progression

I did this a while back, just didn’t get around to posting it.

This animation is 1.3Mb {your patience is appreciated :-) }

My husband thinks that in this portrait my expression is a little mocking. He prefers this one. I like them both, they are just different moods of me.

Gandhi vs.Gandhian

Posted by aarohi | Posted in Acrylics, kitsch, Portraits, Thoughts | Posted on 19-08-2011

Today my country is divided and yet, today it stands together, with voices raised that are demanding to be heard.

We are all fired up with one burning issue- the fate of the Jan LokPal Bill.

With opinions and counter opinions.. With allegations and counter allegations.. With supercilious and sanctimonious statements..
The emotional blackmail of an indefinite fast by Anna Hazare, a government that can’t seem to make up it’s mind, an opposition that is milking the situation for all its worth… and yet there is HOPE.

As my friend Ayush Gupta says-
” Lokpal is a scary idea but something’s gotta give. The governance structure: legislative, administrative and executive seem so rotten that its difficult to see how a change could come from within. So, anything is better than the wretched and stagnant status quo. Hope seemed to have died and anything that ignites that hope deserves to be nurtured, perhaps with caution, but not with indifference.”

So here is the first of a new series. I decided to put my money where my mouth is. They are not pretty kettles anymore and they are not limited to my life anymore. They, hopefully, will make you pause for a moment and think, regardless of which side of the fence you sit on.. or indeed whether you sit on the fence itself.

Bangalore Mirror – Kitsch Me Quick

Posted by aarohi | Posted in Acrylics, Articles, kitsch, press | Posted on 27-05-2011

Thank you Aparna Chandra for taking the time to listen to my views on art and Kitsch. It’s indeed an honour to be talked of in the same article as Mr Yusuf Arrakal…to actually hold my own on a differing viewpoint…wow!! You can read the article here.

Update: Protsahan

Posted by aarohi | Posted in Acrylics, Event, kitsch | Posted on 04-05-2011

Just to let you all know… The Delhi Twestival was able to raise 50,000 INR from the sale of my Ganapati paintings. Although Protsahan is still to receive the money…I have no doubt it will eventually get there. As per my understanding, three of the paintings were bought by the Madhya Pradesh Emporium and one by a private buyer.

Thank you :-)

Since the funds raised will be used for the education of 59 girls from various streets and slums….this seemed an appropriate image!

Please do follow all the good work they do at:

Today

This is what I have been working on the past few weeks…

Me? Alpha Dog. You? Just Dog.

Posted by aarohi | Posted in Acrylics, kitsch, Portraits | Posted on 26-04-2011

Thats my friend Rakesh Shukla for you.

Jokes aside, he is one of the most ardent dog lovers that you can find. Between his office and home, he has 10 dogs. Only two are pure bred, the rest are strays. He also looks after about a dozen stray dogs in our locality. He feeds them and takes care of their medical needs too. All of them have been spayed / neutered at his expense.  And he lives in hope that they can find a loving home. And if they don’t, then as he says- ’Main hoon na’.

However, lest you think he is a saint…He has a real foul mouth on him sometimes and believes everyone is guilty until they can be proven innocent!! Which of course makes for ear reddening comments from time to time. The thought blurbs illustrate those :-) The dog tags depicted read- ” Bad to the Bone” which he says he is and “TWB“- the company he co-founded and runs.

I once asked him how he manages to control all the dogs… and he answered “They know who’s the Alpha Dog ” !!

Oh! I almost forgot to mention….he is an artist himself. There are many ways to paint a portrait of a person. And I have painted a traditional one of him before. You can see it here. But, I think this one is more him. It kind of better captures the essence of him. I sure hope he agrees :-) otherwise I am going to have a mighty offended friend on my hands!!!!
