Memories of the 100ft exhibition

Posted by aarohi | Posted in Dogs, Event, Exhibition, Interiors, Poonchh, Portraits, press | Posted on 28-02-2012

The dogs took over 100ft from Feb 10-12th 2012. From life size silhouettes to paw prints leading the guests in…. it was three wonderful doggie days. I met and interacted with old friends, made a whole host of new ones, and realized, there are enough people in the world who still care for those that can’t always defend themselves :-)

The Poonchh Collection exhibition  at 100ft raised a bunch of money for the cause and I think a lot of awareness too. It got written about in multiple newspapers and magazines, both online and offline. The stray dogs were the lead story on MSN India, Femina, LiveMint, The Alternative, among a whole host of others. My blogging friends showed trmendous support and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

I will share the press reports from the newspapers in the next few posts, meanwhile here are some links to the online material.

A big thank you to Amrita for writing about my work yet again. You can read about the earlier piece here . My conversations with her always revolve around food for some reason. She had come over to do a shoot for a quick breakfast recipe that could be prepared in under five minutes. You can read about that here.

And as always we got talking and I discussed at length with her my passion for the cause and the Poonchh Collection.

I had no clue about this write- up. Got a call from a friend in Delhi who saw the paper first thing in the morning. And then congratulated me on Facebook.

Me? I am clueless at that point.

So I did a little digging, found the write up was indeed about my work and my house :-)

Thank you Meenakshi for the wonderful write up.

Thank you Pavita for sending the hard copy to me all the way from Delhi to Bangalore.

Here it is…

Sorry it took me over a month to post this… too much happening!

My Thayyam trunk made it to the accessories page in the magazine.

Thank you Rekha Nambiar. Prismma has recently changed it’s format into a delightful spread of little nuggets spread across six sections. Very well done.

My work has been featured along with the super talented Vineeta Nair of Artnlight, Swati Seth of Colour Caravan and last but not the least, Varnam at Shopo.

Get out there and get your hands dirty!!

Posted by aarohi | Posted in press, Thoughts | Posted on 23-09-2011

It’s wonderful to see so much that is ‘ Hand Made’ again.

The other day sitting at home with my husband, I was feeling a little unfulfilled and dissatisfied with life, when there was actually no reason to be. We got to talking about what makes us content as human beings. The answer was actually very simple. Working with our hands! For both of us, the tactile is very important.

We are cerebral souls with a  lifetime of working spent on that aspect of living. But, ever so often we both need to create something that not only fulfills the soul, nurtures the intellect but also lets one ‘touch’. My painting/art gives me all of that. The reason I felt low and lost was because I had not painted in a while… I am happy to say- I have rectified the situation!!

This month, my work got featured in the India Today Magazine supplement called ‘Home’. It’s a feature that celebrates everything Handmade :-)

You can read the article here.

I also want to share with you a wonderful interactive poster by Roland Tiangco.

While removing the poster from it’s envelope, you can’t help but get your hands dirty. The back of the page is covered in ink :-) As the unfolded poster is felt, touched, handled, the text becomes visible: “The future belongs to the few of us still willing to get our hands dirty.”

Brilliantly done.

Simple, yet effective.

I also don’t want to give you the impression that only creating a tactile object of some kind will give me/you that satisfied/ fulfilled feeling. It’s I think, the willingness to put yourself out there, in thought, word and deed. On that note I want to leave you with two more links on what some friends are doing to highlight issues they feel strongly about.

Both are completely voluntary in nature. They are willing to get their hands dirty ( quite literally) for a cause they believe in.

Are you?
