Recently I was invited to a Sangeet ( pre-wedding celebration) and had to dress up. Well if you know me, you know I live in black kurtas and jeans. But black is considered inauspicious at celebrations and I had to wear colour and a ghagra as well! So this is what I came up with. I was comfortable and managed to blend in quite well.
What I want to share with you is the blouse/choli/kurti I wore. I made this from scrap fabric some 8-10 years ago while on vacation at my parents place. I use a lot of scrap fabric to make all sorts of things including ‘new’ clothes for me :-). These were pieces left over after I had made a bunch of saree blouses for my mother. I love that it is loaded with memory. That band of stripes you see was the border to a saree my mum had. The reddish maroon fabric is leftover from a kurta my masi had….
The back is essentially a single piece of fabric with two darts center back to give a little shape. The front is made of two pieces. The top half is cut to fit just under the bust with two block pleats that are an inch each right under the center point of each breast and the lower half is just a flat piece of fabric. The best part about this pattern is that it has no separate sleeves, so there are no arm holes to worry about and it fits very comfortably!
I leave you with another picture of me and my very merry band of friends 🙂
